Quarried in the Mountains of Arkansas, Novaculite is not found anywhere else in the world.  These sharpening stones are composed of 99.9% pure silica.  Their ability to remove less material than other abrasive products, hence, makes them unique.  Because the stone is naturally durable they will perform for an extended periods of time without lapping or flattening.
