Carvers Abranet Sanding Sheets.  These 3″ x 5″ highly durable abrasive sheets are excellent for wood carvers.

They consist of aluminum oxide abrasive bonded to a tough, flexible mesh.  Because the mesh allows dust to migrate right through it prevent clogging.

There are times when woodcarvers must sand their carvings. Since it is the only way to get that smooth, polished finish.

If you must sand, I recommend a sanding product that doesn’t leave grit.  It’s called Abranet.  They call it dust-free because the mesh allows most of the dust to be pulled in by dust collectors. But I have only used it with hand sanding, so obviously not so dust-free for my work. In my estimate this sandpaper lasts 10 to 15 times longer than traditional sandpaper. I’m not sure why, but the bonding of the sanding material holds much better than sand stuck to a piece of paper.  I will never use traditional “sand” sandpaper again!   And the best part [for carvers] – it doesn’t leave grit in your wood so if you ever have to put chisels to the wood again, it doesn’t dull the chisels.
