Who's Got Butternut? We've Got Butternut!
Butternut has been increasing difficult to purchase over
the last few years due to the
butternut disease that ravished our trees both south and north of the border.
And when
you could find it, the price was way too high for carvers.

Those of you who have carved Butternut before do not need
to be convinced of the properties of this
delightful carving wood. Pop had a great opportunity to buy up a quantity
of 2" thick Butternut "at the right price".
We milled top and bottom surfaces to expose and defects and then "cut them out"
leaving blemish-free quailty pieces.

Now don't get all excited ..we didn't go that far.
Actually we only moved
about 125 yards south of the old location ..even have the same landlord.
When you come to visit you will see three Quanset Huts ( you know those
half-round
buildings made popular back in WW2 times) ...we're in the last one with the flat
roof addition. Cozy new store and we love it!
So our street address is now 836 instead of 808 and the same zip code.

Helping Children's Wishes Come True!
Our first contribution of a Christmas Tree decorated with hand-carved ornaments
was
in December of 2008. The event was organzied by Maycourt (a charitable
organization) that featured
19 different Trees (various Christmas Themes) which had been decorated by
various businesses
from the Kitchener area. The Trees were fully decorated and displayed in a
local Shopping Mall.
Raffle tickets are sold by volunteers at the event venue and participants place
the stub of their ticket in
a 'draw box" located in front of the tree they hope to win. 19 Trees - 19
Draw Boxes.
We asked our Carving Friends and Customers to donate a ornament to this worth
cause - and we received
many more than we could actually use on the tree. The event raised
$24,000.00 in 2008.
Again in 2009 we asked our Carving Customers to donate a ornament - and we
received
more than we could use on the tree again. Michigan Woodcarvers alone decorated
enough to decorate our tree! The 2010 event raised over $25,000.00.br />
AND ....we still had some decorations left over so our local Children's Wish
Co-ordinator
sponsored two 'open house' events for Children's Wish Volunteers that might like
to
purchase some decorations for themselves or gifts. Those events raised
another $2,000.00!
Our Problem Now ~ we are completely out of ornaments for this coming Christmas
and we need YOUR help - badly!
Would you like to donate a hand carved Christmas Tree Ornament
to help us raise funds for Children's Wish?
The carving can be anything of a Christmas or Seasonal theme ...Santa, Angel,
Snowman, Nativity Figure, Star ...just about anything related to Christmas.
It can be painted, stained or left unfinished. Please keep them "small"
...they have
to be light enough to hand from an artifical tree branch!
Please put your initials and State or Province on them.
We need them by the end of October and Please send them to us ONLY via
the Postal Service - NOT UPS!
Send them to:
