Children's Wish Foundation & Chipping Away
Need Your
Help
We need Carved Christmas Tree Decorations
Please don't wait til the last
minute ...the kids need YOU now!
Many of you already know that
Chipping Away is a supporter
and does volunteer work for Children's Wish Foundation. One of their
fundraisers is a Christmas Tree Raffle. A number of companies and organizations
sponsor an artificial Christmas Tree, or seasonal adornment which are put on
display in a shopping mall. Volunteers sell raffle tickets and the donor then
puts his ticket slip into the box in front of the tree or adornment he would
like to win. Proceeds from the ticket sales goes to MayCourt (they support
various charity homes for women) and Children's Wish Foundation.
We helped raise $24,000 with our 2008 Christmas Tree Raffle.
Please consider carving a
decoration for our tree! We suggest you start working on your carving right
away as we need to receive them by October 2009. Please put your initials and
your State or Province on your decoration.
The carving can be of a Santa, Snowman, Angel, Christmas Tree, Snow
Sled ...really just about anything with a Seasonal Theme. It can be painted,
stained, or left without a finish at all, the choice is yours. The only
requirement is that the ornament be of appropriate size and weight to be
supported on an artificial Christmas Tree branch ...NOT too big please! If
you could add a
small screw-eye or means of attaching a string that would be great!
Mail your ornament to us - DO NOT send via UPS or FedEx PLEASE.

Wood Carvers are the Greatest!
The Lancaster County Woodcarvers of PA hopes to schedule a project
night at their club for making Christmas Ornaments for our Children's Wish
project.
But ...here is another of their charitable works as outlined in a letter to Pop
"After 9/11 the club felt a great need to do something for the families of those
who
lost loved ones during the attack. The club members did what they do best,
they carved.
The number of carvings completed was 300; and they were taken up to New York on
Halloween of 2001 and donated to the children. They then went a step
further; the
'word' was put out on the internet. 600 additional carvings were received
from
across the country. These too went to the children of NY.
Each year the Lancaster County Woodcarvers of PA holds a show and 2009 will
their 36th. At each show they have a charity raffle, for many years their
charity was
The Make A Wish Foundation. They have also contributed to The Schreiber
Children's
Rehab Center and this year will be their second time to Support Our American
Recruits.
The SOAR charity collects items that may not be available to the troops and
ships
them to a unit overseas. The charity is headed by a group of women that
have loved ones in the service.
Tony Wispinski's humble beginning!
Tony lives in Smoky Lake, Alberta (approx 60 miles
northeast of Edmonton), and
taught Joyce Buchanan (author of Carving Woodspirits in Tree Bark) how to carve
woodspirits ~ and he just happens to be an old friend of Pops!
His DVD "Bark Carving Made Easy" is very popular and sold exclusively by
Chipping Away.
It was back in 1962 when he bought his first carving tool from Woodwards
Department
Store for $1.49 ...and as they say "the rest is history"!
