Featured Carver
Chris Howard of Gatlinburg, TN.
Pop says:
I cannot remember laughing harder than when Chris was telling stories of his life while growing up in the Smoky Mountains.  Chris was attending our 2005 Carver's Conference and entertained us with stories while Ol Don Burgdorf serenaded us on his guitar at the end of the day.
Chris has a friendly southern manner, long hair, white cowboy hat and speaks with a
Tennessee drawl that is perfect for telling mountain tales.

Chris was born the son of an Native American Mother in the shadows of the Great Smoky Mountains where music and art are a way of life. He began carving wildlife before becoming interested in sculpting human busts.  Chris travels across the US teaching classes at many events and should you ever have an opportunity to take a class with Chris, I assure you it will be well worth your
time and effort.  Pop

S
culpture of Madonna was completed for the 2008 Christmas Season.

Thunder Bay Carvers Club
Hi Dennis: Just spoke with you by phone about our special 10th Anniversary of our Thunder Bay Carvers club celebration on Dec 17, 2008. The two $25. gift certificates you mentioned will certainly be great to have and we will use them as door prizes. Thank you so much for that. Also, please do send a dozen or two catalogues since we do have a membership of 82 members.

I will  send you a picture of our recently completed carving quilt. It's a real beauty and it's made up of 41 relief carvings, carved by our members, that are 6"x 6" basswood, each depicting a scene or event within Thunder Bay and area.

It is a group project that began in May 2008 to commemorate the club's 10th Anniversary. It will be on public display, before Christmas, at the Thunder Bay Museum, and then on to other locations throughout the city. It is aproximately 5 1/2 feet long by 3 1/2 feet wide.

Once again I wish to Thank you and Chipping Away for your generous donation.
